What is A/B testing?
An A/B test, also known as a split-test, is a process in which two versions, or elements of a website, are simultaneously shown to different visitors at the same time.
Conversions are measured across both versions.
The variant that converts better wins. And, that’s the one you should implement on your website.
A/B testing is a great way to quantitatively determine if a change on your website will truly help optimize conversions.
How can A/B testing help me?
A/B testing can definitively tell you what works best on your website.
It’s surprising, but even something as simple as the color of a button, or the placement of a form can hugely impact conversions!
And, often times, what does work is surprising — or not what you thought. That’s exactly why it’s important to test.
Take this real-life A/B test as an example. Do you think it was more effective to put the sign-up form on the left or right side of the page?
Go ahead and take your best guess.
Version A | Version B |
---|---|
![]() | ![]() |
Version A: Form on left side of page | Version B: Form on right side of the page |
Which test won?
Version A with the form on the left side of the page. Or, version B with the form on the right side of the page?
If you guess Version A, you’re right. Congratulations!
Putting the form on the left side of the page increased sign-up conversions 30.8%!
That means the number of people completing the sign-up form rose by double-digits, simply by testing and determining the best place to put the sign-up form.
Whether you guessed right, or you’re surprised by these results, you can see, A/B testing can greatly help you increase conversions, bringing you more leads and money.
